Ethereum targets full quantum resistance by December 2029 as Hegotá takes shape

Ethereum is targeting full post-quantum security across Ethereum L1 by December 2029. EF Protocol's tier list evaluated 62 Ethereum Improvement Proposals for the Hegotá upgrade. FOCIL and Frame Transactions received S-tier status. FOCIL is EIP-7805. It would let a validator committee force the inclusion of valid public-mempool transactions. This proposal is intended to strengthen censorship resistance. Frame Transactions is EIP-8141. It is designed to make account abstraction native to Ethereum. The proposal would split transactions into programmable frames for validation, gas payment, and execution. Wallets could use custom signatures, sponsored gas, and batched actions without relying on offchain operators. EF Protocol said safely delivering both proposals and testing their interaction is the fork's core engineering commitment. A-tier proposals are scheduled alongside the S-tier proposals unless delivery constraints force cuts. B-tier proposals will be considered individually. C-tier proposals have lower priority but are not disqualified. The list marked 28 EIPs as declined for inclusion. EF Protocol said the December 2029 target covers the execution, consensus, and data layers. The target aligns with independent migration targets from Google, Cloudflare, and Microsoft. EF Protocol said Ethereum L1 should plan for Q-day as early as 2030. It said most credible estimates place Q-day later. The 2029 deadline will remain non-negotiable at least until January 2027. EF Protocol plans to reassess quantum progress with outside experts at that time. Hegotá is not the post-quantum fork. Hegotá is intended to determine whether later post-quantum upgrades remain on schedule. The roadmap places a minimum-viable post-quantum milestone at J*. It targets full resistance at L*. Reaching December 2029 from Glamsterdam's planned Q4 2026 release would require an average cadence of 7.2 months per fork. Hegotá will ship while I* specifications mature. Research for J* through L* will also need to progress in parallel. Post-quantum readiness is one of five multi-fork research arcs for the protocol.
