Elon Musk promises to reimburse users if Grok loses their money

Elon Musk said xAI will make users whole if Grok Bot loses money while managing their bank accounts. Teslaconomics, a Tesla and xAI investor, asked whether anyone had connected Grok Bot to a bank account. Teslaconomics said Grok Bot could track spending, pay bills, and identify unusual charges. Teslaconomics's partner reportedly opposed giving the bot that access. Grok Bot launched in beta on August 11. According to xAI, each agent operates continuously on its own cloud computer. The agent signs into websites like a human. X Money launched peer-to-peer payments in June. xAI's consumer terms provide its outputs and agentic actions on an as-is basis. The terms cap most claims at the fees a user paid or $100, whichever is greater. SuperGrok costs $30 per month. A year of subscription fees totals $360. Regulation E protects customers from unauthorized electronic transfers. The protections may not apply when customers provide a bot with their account login. In May, hidden instructions in a malicious NFT used prompt injection to move money from a Grok-linked Bankr wallet. The attack drained roughly $150,000. About 80% of the funds later returned. A separate breach later affected 14 user wallets on the same platform. Bankr pledged full reimbursement for that breach. No verified case of Grok Bot mishandling a real bank account had surfaced so far.
